Marketing and Advertising 101: How to Get Noticed and Get Customers

Marketing simply means making people aware of your product or service. Advertising is how you spread that message.
Many small businesses struggle not because their product is bad, but because their message is unclear.
First, focus on clarity.
Your advert must answer three simple questions:
What are you selling?
Who is it for?
How can they buy it?
For example, instead of saying: "Quality catering services available."
Say: "Affordable event catering for weddings and parties. Call 07XX XXX XXX to book."
Be specific. Clear beats clever.
Second, highlight one main benefit.
Do not list everything. Choose the strongest reason someone should buy:
Fast delivery
Affordable prices
Fresh daily ingredients
Custom designs
24-hour service
Keep your message simple and direct.
Third, place your advert in high-traffic, relevant locations.
High-traffic means places where many people pass or spend time:
Busy streets
Markets
Bus stations
Notice boards
Popular WhatsApp groups
Facebook community pages
Near schools or offices
Relevant means your target customer is likely to be there. If you sell student services, advertise near campuses. If you sell office lunches, advertise near office areas.
Online, this means posting where your ideal customers already engage — not randomly everywhere.
Finally, include a clear call to action. Tell people exactly what to do: "Call now." "Order today." "Visit our shop." "Send a WhatsApp message."
This week, review one of your current adverts. Simplify the message, highlight one key benefit, and move it to a more relevant, high-traffic location. Clear and visible marketing brings real results.
